The district collector of Nagapatanam did a super job after the Tsunami.. But he was transferred by the next TN govt.. Unlike MLAs(who may or may not be relected) or beaurocrats (who can be transferred anytime), area associations always work for a particular area and know the needs much better..Raghav Parthasarathyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06655500599359379720noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7049240291207335238.post-40562519936476093232010-01-11T15:44:23.818+05:302010-01-11T15:44:23.818+05:30"The problems faced by an area (typically a l..."The problems faced by an area (typically a legislative assembly )can be addressed by forming an Area Association comprising of really smart and hardworking people located in the area"
Theoretically the MLA, Councilors, Bureaucrats(IAS, IPS officers) were supposed to be the smart and hardworking individuals who should take of problems that plague an area. I believe that this should be taken care by the MP and not by an MLA.. The MLA needs to perform the duties I have mentioned in my blog whereas an MP would focus on the larger issues.. Although this seems fairly difficult in our country where the centre and state governments transfer their responsibilities to each other ! :-)

You sum up a brilliant point when you say "I cant help but think that such a divisive policy would only infuse more confusion and introduce further scope for manipulative tactics along geographical/economical lines (as if we dont have enough of that already!)"

Thanks for your valuable comment. Thanks for the interesting post.
I have ...Raghav,

Thanks for the interesting post.

I have a couple of comments.

1. Your thought on tailoring a solution to fit the need at a grassroot level is indeed an interesting thought. You're spot on in the observation that what is observed to be a good solution for one may prove to be not as effective to another, unless it is applied in a way that the second person gets the most benefit from it.

2. However, consider what could happen if we institute independent factions working at grass root levels with varying agendas? They would have only their priorities in mind and all decisions/actions they take would be solely to further interests. What happens to the larger interest of the community/India? I cant help but think that such a divisive policy would only infuse more confusion and introduce further scope for manipulative tactics along geographical/economical lines (as if we dont have enough of that already!)

All said and done, no man is an island and no change can be effected unless it starts from the lowest rung of the ladder. I think what we need is a bridge between the two extremes - monarchy and a free for all situation - and i believe it starts from the individual. You and i become a little bit more socially responsible and we've made a mark on the image of the country. Sure its a small, almost negligible mark but we gotta start somewhere!

Someone follows you, and someone else follows me - the chain might just continue! I sure hope it does!

ok - i realise i am running the risk of having my comment as long as your article! Think i'll stop now :)Abhishek Ramanihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01749225530118319557noreply@blogger.com
